Alpi Liguri: trekking, arrampicata e yoga, l’alternativa all’overtourism

Ligurian Alps: trekking, climbing, and yoga, an alternative to overtourism

In August, we took a few days to truly escape the heat of the Riviera di Ponente, traveling between the Ligurian-Emilian Apennines to the east and the Ligurian Alps in the Brigasche lands to the west . Two different regions, but united by authentic nature, silence, and spaces far from mass tourism.

In particular, we chose to dedicate a day to the legendary Terre Brigasche , that unique territory divided between Piedmont, Liguria and France, to live an experience that combines trekking and yoga at high altitude.

A magical place, far from the mountain destinations that made headlines this summer for shameful overtourism, often disrespectful of the environment and local communities. Places crowded simply to escape the daily grind, snap a photo or a reel, garner a few likes... and then immediately return to their usual hectic lives. This is today's "hit-and-run" tourism.

Knowing this area well—also thanks to the work of Mattia Pozzati, Medium Mountain Guide and co-founder of By Fair Means —we reached a splendid alpine meadow at high altitude, beneath the natural amphitheater of the Mongioie mountain range , to relax and enjoy the fresh border air.

An authentic experience between trekking and yoga

It's here that the Ligurian Alps reveal their true essence: a land both wild and welcoming, where the mountains aren't a mass spectacle but an intimate experience. Among green pastures, silences broken only by the wind, and views stretching all the way to the sea, trekking becomes an inner journey.

And when, at the end of the climb, we laid out our natural rubber mats and cork support wheels for a high-altitude yoga session, the sensation was unique: breathing deeply, letting go of fatigue, and feeling connected to a place that needs no filters or hashtags to be extraordinary.

Why choose unknown destinations?

Beauty isn't always found where everyone goes. Choosing lesser-known destinations means seeking the unknown , letting yourself be surprised by landscapes and communities that don't need to be packaged for mass tourism.

It means studying new itineraries , without settling for what is proposed by agencies or influencers, developing a true critical sense towards the way we consume the mountains today.

It's an act of respect for the environment and for those who live in these places every day, but also a gift to oneself: the chance to rediscover silence, slow time, the taste of authentic discovery.

For those who love nature tout court , this is the true essence of travel: living with it to feel good, not exploiting it to appear.

Living the mountains with respect

Forgotten places, far from mass tourism, ask for nothing more than to be experienced with care and respect. Here, the mountains reveal their true essence: authentic silence, open spaces, and regenerating landscapes.

Choosing to explore these lands means rediscovering the pleasure of slowness, discovery, and genuine connection with nature. It's a gesture of care for the environment, for local communities, and, above all, for oneself.

Our goal is always to be inspired by beauty, truth, loyalty, and everything we can't control, but which we love to accept and embrace!
